The Case Laws are not to be dismissed:
”But you, stand here by me, and I will tell you the whole commandment and the statutes and the rules that you shall teach them, that they may do them in the land that I am giving them to possess.’ You shall be careful therefore to do as the LORD your God has commanded you. You shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. You shall walk in all the way that the LORD your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may live long in the land that you shall possess.” (Deu 5:31-33)
Looks like, in Moses’ time, even the pagans had a better understanding of who the LORD is than mainstream Christianity has today. Where antinomianism prevails, the god people are praying to is a very different God than the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
“See, I have taught you statutes and rules, as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’ ” (Deu 4:5-6)
“The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the blameless, but destruction to evildoers. The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land.” (Pro 10:29-30)
And how do we know “the way of the LORD” ? Where does the LORD tell us about His “way” ?
Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight. For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it. (Pro 9:7-12)
So no throwing of pearls before swine…
“And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.” (Pro 8:32 -36)
So who is Wisdom ? What does she say about herself ?
Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol; she does not ponder the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it. (Pro 5:5-6)
Proverbs 5 is about the danger of adultery, and the waste involved. Adultery is abominable in God’s eyes, and it leads to death.
Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on. (Pro 4:14-15)
And what is evil? Who defines what is wicked ? How do we determine what is good and what is evil ?
God defines His terms, by His word we know what is good and what is evil. Were it otherwise, we would commit Eve’s sin over and over again: to determine for ourselves what is good and what isn’t, in disobedience to God’s command. But if we follow God’s instructions, decrees, testimonies, precepts, we follow the path of righteousness, and walk with the just. There is only one standard.
